Bayou by Jeremy Love

Bayou is today’s Featured Book of Color. This intelligent graphic novel was written by Jeremy Love. Based off of Jeremy Love’s webcomic series, this book follows Lee Wagstaff south of the Mason-Dixon line. South of the line lies a land of monsters, and one particular creature emerges from the swamp and steals Lee’s white friend.

After the kidnapping, Lee’s father is accused of the crime and Lee tries to save him from being lynched. The only help and guidance offered is from the blues-singing monster, Bayou. They travel together through the world of slaves on a journey that will change both of their lives.
