Today’s Pick of the Day is Beantown Cubans, written by Johnny Diaz.

Cuban-born Carlos Martin is an awkward high school teacher who wants a change. In order to escape the crazy social scene and the memories of his recently deceased mother, he makes the drastic move from Miami to Boston.

Carlos finds the difference between Miami and Boston difficult until he meets Tommy Perez, another Miami native who helps him find his independence and individuality as a gay man. With Tommy’s help, Carlos recovers from the tragedy of his mother’s death and realizes the true person within himself.

Johnny Diaz was previously an award-winning reporter for The Miami Herald and currently writes for the Boston Globe.
