Blogging the Blogged Newspaper Blog Survey

pub.pngThe Online Journalism Blog just released a survey that cut across the industry–finding out how blogging has affected hundreds of writers a traditionally print-bound medium. 70 percent of all U.S. newspapers and 85 percent of all U.K. news groups now utilize blogging technology, and it’s time somebody quantified how this changes the art of writing.

“I think in hyperlinks,” wrote one respondent, touching on the crux of the matter for writers of all stripes. In the end, blogging is just a revolutionary method of content delivery, and surveys like this help writers compare best practices.

It’s time for a similar survey of the publishing industry too. We’d hazard a guess that at least 60 percent of all authors are doing some sort of blogging, and we should be comparing notes. Here’s an excerpt: “Perhaps the most significant change was in the way that blogs provided a platform for stories or detail that would otherwise not make the print or broadcast version at all.”

This goes out to the blogging authors and publishers in the audience. What kind of extra stories, material, and detail are you using on your site?
