Book Culture Braces for Spring Semester Crunch

Last summer, I mentioned that Labyrinth Books co-founder Chris Doeblin had broken away from his business partners and, hanging on to the store’s location near Columbia, renamed it Book Culture. I’m told that the store recently launched a blog, featuring interviews with visiting authors and announcements about store events. Right now, for example, the site offers tips for Columbia and Barnard students whose shopping season for the new semester officially begins this morning—although the undergrads don’t start classes until the 22nd, so the Martin Luther King Day weekend is touted as an ideally unhectic time for students to drop by. In-store events will resume in late Feburary, beginning with an appearance by poet Meena Alexander.
