Coping with Publishing Layoffs

kathibook.jpgHundreds of publishing jobs were lost during this long and dark recession. On the Morning Media Menu today, author Kathi Elster gave advice for publishing professionals rocked by layoffs and restructuring.

Elster, the author of the new book, “Working with You Isn’t Working for Me,” has coached employees in countless professions during these tough times. She also gave advice to the next generation of journalists and writers who must adjust to a new publishing economy.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview: “I think this is happening in every industry. People are feeling a little betrayed by their industry. They’re saying, ‘What happened? I went to school for this! I’m a professional and now my industry is not giving me what I deserve.’ We have to acknowledge that people are very disappointed, and they are going through a psychological shift–both the young and the old.”
