Doctorow Snags PEN/Faulkner

The 2006 PEN/Faulkner fiction prize goes to E. L. Doctorow’s The March. “I think it’s his best so far,” George Garrett, one of the three judges on the panel, told the Washington Post. The prize adds some dramatic tension to next week’s National Book Critics Circle awards, where Doctorow is being rematched against National Book Award winner William Vollmann.
