Thriller writer Lorra Laven named her twelve-year-old lab Hextall after a former goalie for the Philadelphia Flyers. “Like Ron Hextall,” she says, “his specialty is almost stopping the puck.” Laven is currently shopping a novel called Plagues: The Sequel “about a prion pandemic whose victims die of insomnia.”
