“Eyes that pleaded silently for death”

angel.jpgAs we enter the age of digital books (and digital book piracy), a number of comic book artists have posted work online for free. In November, Avatar Press will find out how many people will buy a comic book they could have read online.

As reported here, Warren Ellis has been publishing FreakAngels on a weekly schedule online. Next month, Avatar will publish Volume One of that series.

Newsarama recently interviewed Ellis, seeing how the pace of online publishing affected his work. His quote would make a great motivational poster for harried online authors everywhere:

“Well, now I understand why all the British comics writers from the 70s and 80s who worked exclusively in weekly comics had those deep lines all over their faces and those eyes that pleaded silently for death.”
