Harvey Pekar Has Died

story-1.jpgThe Associated Press reports that graphic novelist Harvey Pekar was found dead in his home in Ohio. He was 70-years-old.

Last year the curmudgeonly poet behind the comic book series American Splendor joined Twitter with a simple post: “Don’t go thinkin’ I started usin’ computers or anything. I’m just givin’ my twitters over the phone.” In 2003, his long-running series was adapted into the film, American Splendor.

Pekar’s dictated Twitter stream was part of the Smith magazine’s Pekar Project, Pekar’s first foray into web comics along with a rotating crew of artists. Tara Seibel created that image.

eBookNewser has a video clip from early in Pekar’s career.
