How to Build Furniture Out of Books

case made of books.jpg

If you are a hardcore user of an eReader, the book shelf in your house might be collecting more than a little bit of dust. What to do with unused books in the eReader Age? The New York Times assembled an army of artists and designers with creative answers to this question.

Artist Jacqueline Rush Lee specializes in “Book Sculpture.” She transformed books into flower, squares, and abstract pieces. Gravitating towards the utilitarian, Jim Rosenau creates furniture out of books including book shelves and book cases. His website humorously states that the beginning of the art-making process is when “a fully ripened book is harvested from the Tree of Knowledge (Arborus britannica).” Chris Gardner showed readers on how to turn an old book into a planter. Follow this link to meet them all.

We’ve written about an artist who builds rooms out of books and performances about dancers trapped inside libraries. We also reported that eBook sales were up by a staggering 184.8 percent in March 2010–pointing towards a possible eBook-dominated future.
