Bloomsbury publicist Peter Miller, the new owner of Red Hook’s Freebird Books, sends along this picture from Sunday night’s re-opening, which was also a party for Pierre Bayard, the author of How to Talk About Books You Haven’t Read. “Bayard remained good natured in the Anglophonic crush,” Miller writes on the store’s website, “aided by quick translations from Anne-Sophie Simenel of the French embassy, who was responsible for Bayard’s visit to the U.S. in the first place. Though he was worried that his sense of humor would not translate well in to English, his succinct, witty remarks got the laughs he intended.”

Freebird Books will be open on weekends and Thursday and Friday nights.
