Iowa MFA Students Uneasy Over Library’s Thesis Policy

Dan Wickett of the Emerging Writers Network has been keeping his eye on the University of Iowa, where the university library’s new “open access” policy towards electronic theses and dissertations which, due to confusing language in the thesis submission forms, could result in students in the creative writing MFA program finding their thesis stories published online before they’ve had a chance to place them in magazines or land book deals. (It’s a slim chance, as even Wickett acknowledges, but it isn’t ruled out entirely, even by the most recent developments.)
