The nominees for the 2009 Academy Awards were announced this morning, featuring a few adapted literary works on the newly extended ten film list of Best Picture nominees. Walter Kirn, Lynn Barber, Nick Hornby and Sapphire will be vying for two big awards at the Oscars.
The adapted films nominated for Best Picture were: The Blind Side (based on a Michael Lewis book), Up in the Air (based on Kirn’s novel novel), An Education (based on a Lynn Barber memoir and adapted by Hornby), and the indie film that includes the adaption credits in the title: Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.
In addition, a number of literary films were nominated for “Best Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published.” They included: An Education, Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, and Up in the Air.
