John Grisham’s First Children’s Book Sells As Well As His Other Books

john_grisham.jpgJohn Grisham‘s first foray into children’s books has proven to be a success: Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer debuted at #1 on this week’s New York Times Children’s Books list.

Theodore Boone, Grisham’s first children’s book and first title with Penguin, is about a 13-year-old amateur lawyer in the small town of Strattenburg “who unwittingly becomes involved in a high-profile murder trial.” About the book, the Times says, “Not since Nancy Drew has a nosy, crime-obsessed kid been so hard to resist.” (NB: The article where that quote appears is titled “Fangs and Other Fluff, Completely Guilt Free.”) Grisham will be on NPR’s “All Things Considered” today to talk about the book.

On a related note, it appears that Penguin heeded this editor’s advice (see last line of this article) and redesigned the book’s web site in a kid-friendly way. Well done, guys!
