Kids’ Authors Rally to Spur a Young Reader’s Legacy

brightspirit-fund.jpgWhen a tornado hit central Arkansas in February of this year, the victims included Dana and Jimmy Cherry and their 10-year-old daughter, Emmy Grace (left). Emmy’s grandmothers have created the Brightspirit Relief Fund in her memory to aid causes like literacy, animal care, and storm relief—issues they believe the young girl would have cared about serving.

She was a huge fan of The Warriors, a series of novels for young readers about competing clans of feral cats, and the authors of those novels were among the first to contribute items for an auction to raise funds for Brightspirit. Other participants include Rick Riordan, creator of the popular Percy Jackson books, and Fablehaven author Brandon Mull. The auction begins this Saturday, September 20, and other authors are still welcome to contribute items if they are moved to do so.
