OK, I confess: I don't really have much else on next month's lineup for Varsity Letters, the monthly reading series for sports writers, other than that the June 6 event at Happy Ending includes former Irish pro basketball coach Rus Bradburd, novelist Donald Evans, and Sports Illustrated columnist Rick Reilly. But it was a great excuse to dredge up this panel from a 2005 Gil Thorp storyline, one of the gags that clinched my status as a fan of the Comics Curmudgeon. What with young people not reading newspapers in that tired old print format anymore, we've had to find new ways to read comics, and Josh Fruhlinger's blog is my favorite: Sweet, sweet irony makes even the lamest serial strips bearable!
