Janet Maslin Must've Missed the Memo

After all the love shown to Charles Bock in the NY Times Magazine and the NYT Book Review, daily reviewer Janet Maslin has a less sympathetic take on Beautiful Children. While conceding Bock's ambition, she reports that the novel is "so slack that it seems like a string of overlapping individual sketches, some much better than others."
