Uh oh—our daylong tribute to cats of the publishing industry managed to set off a literary contretemps! Alana Newhouse, the arts and culture editor for The Forward (and the co-editor of Norton's Forward Books line), emailed to register a complaint about Janice Erlbaum's Minky (left). "As any reader will be able to detect almost immediately, 'Minky' is actually Sherman (right), my cat. Benefits accrued from the publicized ownership of said cat—i.e., any and all oohs and ahhs issued from site visitors—must be redirected to my agent if the retention of legal counsel is to be avoided." We make no judgments in this delicate matter, preferring to allow readers to resolve the issue in their own minds!
And though I had originally swore to myself that I wasn't going to permit any stragglers on this whole cat photo thing, that it was just going to be Tuesday and done, that was before Valerie Frankel sent me a picture of her oldest, Penny, surrounded by unicorns. I mean, unicorns, people—I'm not made of stone, you know! But this is it, for real this time—until the Dog Day of August!
