Friday afternoon got pretty spicy over at FishbowlNY, with news of The Nation shutting down a profile of Karen Finley in conjunction with the publication of George & Martha, her elaboration of a sexual fantasy involving our nation's president and its domestic diva. Verso, the book's publisher, says the magazine's website cancelled the planned story because the freelancer who got the assignment recoiled at anal sex scenes that actually aren't even in the book. The Nation counters that they tried to reassign the story to another writer, and even offered to run an excerpt from the book, but gave up when Verso failed to return their calls. "No one on the staff of The Nation is afraid of sex," they insist in a statement to FishbowlNY. "In fact, we quite enjoy it as frequently as possible." I always suspected that's what those year-end cruises were all about.
