Our Girl in Washington Takes Manhattan

Last night’s party, which celebrated both the publication of Mitchell’s latest thriller, Our Girl in Washington, and the screening of a trailer for Action Team 1′s documentary about the war on terror in Afghanistan. Guests included many of Mitchell’s former CNN colleagues, as well as New Yorker senior editor Jeffrey Frank and outgoing Authors Guild president Nick Taylor . And I ended up having a great conversation with Dan McGirt, who’s in the midst of returning to fantasy novels after a prolonged detour in political speechwriting. (Well, okay, it’s not as if he’s giving up the speechwriting…but he is “digitally remastering” his early trilogy and writing new stories set in the narrative gaps between its volumes…)
