Come Party with mediabistro.com and Jeffrey Yamaguchi

workingfortheman-invite.jpgIf we learned anything from the GalleyCat mailbag last week—and the frustrated letters continued pouring in all weekend—it's that there's some people in the publishing industry are really, really miserable about what they've made of their professional lives, and the people they have to share those lives with. Of course, that's not a major insight: Take a look at any industry, and you'll find a bloc of disgruntled workers—which is why there's no shortage of TV shows, movies, and books aiming to tap into that frustration. This Wednesday, November 7, New York readers can commiserate with fellow wageslaves from all corners of the media industry as mediabistro.com hosts a party for Jeffrey Yamaguchi and his twisted handbook for office survival, Working for the Man. (If Jeff's name sounds familiar, it's because you've read about him here before;in his day job, he's an online marketing manager for HarperCollins—ironically, a pretty happy one from everything we've seen.)

Those of you who feel massively underpaid for your work efforts may be tempted by two hours' worth of complimentary appetizers, or the free drink tickets we'll be handing out to the first fifty arrivals. Or it might just be enough to blow off some steam with a hundred or so other people who've been through just as miserable a day at the office as you have. Actually, when you put it that way, it doesn't sound particularly fun, does it? Scratch that, then—RSVP online to join us at Katra starting at 6:30 p.m., and you might leave with some ideas to make Thursday morning a little more bearable.
