While covering the annual Paris Review fundraising revel for a magazine assignment, I met up with Benjamin Percy, the winner of this year's Plimpton Prize for fiction writers making their Review debut, and his wife, Lisa. I've been a fan of Percy's for a while, so that was a big treat. And I'm not sure what was going on in the story Review editor Philip Gourevitch was telling to his fellow journalists, Clara Bingham and Frances FitzGerald, but it certainly looked entertaining... A ton of writers and publishing folks converged on the Puck Building for this one, along with an outfit called Hungry March Band, who snaked through the crowd playing Sun Ra's "Where Pathways Meet," which automatically makes them the coolest band in the world.
