The Bridget-Sex genre traffics in fiction while claiming to represent real life, and its greatest invention is that being a woman today is about incompetence and humiliation.

But, at least these books present women’s pratfalls as endearing. In real life, no one realizes you’re really each scene’s heroine, and that your gauche manners, consequently, are delightful, not disturbing.
