Price Wars Escalate in the UK

halfprice.jpgThe eBook price wars in the UK took a dramatic turn today as bookseller W H Smith slashed all eBook prices–selling all eBooks for half price.

Nevertheless, Amazon UK’s prices remain very, very competitive–low prices that may shock American eBook readers. The W H Smith sale features Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer for £5.10 and Play Dead by Harlan Coben for £2.72. Both prices represent a 66 percent savings off the original price of the eBook.

Here’s more from The Bookseller: “W H Smith has made all its e-books half price, just days after launching a two-thirds off offer on its top 100 fiction e-books … High street retailers have become increasingly competitive with e-book pricing since Amazon announced it would launch its Kindle e-book reader in the UK on 27th August.” (Via Jose Afonso Furtado)
