Steve Jobs: 5 Million Books Downloaded in iBookstore

wwdc2010.pngAt the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) conference today, Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced some upcoming updates to the iBookstore.

According to the Apple Insider live blog, Jobs unveiled some dramatic stats: “In 65 days users have downloaded 5 million books, 2.5 per iPad. 5 of 6 biggest publishers. Share of ebooks from Apple’s iBook store is 22% in just a few weeks.”

Most dramatically, the iBookstore will now have PDF support. Engadget recorded this quote from Jobs: “We’ve put a selector right up top, you can select PDFs, you get a whole new bookshelf. They just look gorgeous.” Along with updates to the iBookstore, readers will now be able highlight passages within the text, add notes, bookmark pages. Bookmarks will also show up in the table of contents.
