Last Friday, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards made an appearance at the New York Public Library to talk about his new memoir, Life.

People had stood in line since 8 a.m. for the event. Each ticket purchase included a signed copy of the book.

Richards revealed a lifelong love for libraries. He jokingly pointed out that it was one of the few places where even he obeyed the rules (i.e. silence).

He explained: “To me, it was a place you got a hint that may be there was a thing called civilization … It was a place I went to find out things I wanted to find out about.”

October has been a busy month for musicians. Last week Ben Folds played a concert with author Nick Hornby. At the same time, several rock stars will also release books. Here’s a line-up of these music artists-turned-writers.

In the video embedded above, you can see Greg Graffin–who fronts the punk band, Bad Religion. He holds a PhD in zoology and has a day job as a UCLA professor. His new nonfiction book, Anarchy Evolution: Faith, Science, and Bad Religion in a World Without God, explores issues in science and theology.

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards will publish his memoir, Life on October 26th. While designing the cover, Little, Brown creative director Mario Pulice coincidentally picked out Richards’ favorite photo of himself.
