Breaking Dawn Part 2, the last installment of The Twilight Saga film franchise, has been released this week.

We’ve collected links to five free digital books that inspired Stephenie Meyer while she wrote the novels behind the movies. In an interview, Meyer (pictured, via) talked about her favorite authors. She explained:

I’ve been reading books for adults my entire life. Growing up I was an avid reader—the thicker the book, the better.  Pride and Prejudice, Gone with the Wind, The Sword of Shannara, Jane Eyre, Rebecca, etc.  I’m a huge fan of Orson Scott Card, and Jane Austen– I can’t go through a year without re-reading her stuff again.

Summit Entertainment has released the first teaser trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. We’ve embedded the trailer above–what do you think?

The 15-second clip has drawn more than 116,800 “likes” on Facebook. The film comes out in November, and the full trailer will be available on the movie’s Facebook page on March 26th.

Stephenie Meyer‘s novel Breaking Dawn features an elaborate plot inspired by two William Shakespeare plays: A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Merchant of Venice.

Twihards around the world will watch The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 this weekend. In the latest installment of the blockbuster series, fans can expect to see a dramatic vampire wedding and eventful honeymoon.

We caught up with screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to talk about writing scripts and the adaptation process. The highlights follow below…

Q: Describe the writing process when you are charged with adapting a book for a script versus writing an original script.
A: Each comes with its own challenges, but nothing is more difficult than starting with a blank page, as a writer does with an original project. I had the good fortune to start with an already fully fleshed out universe and mythology. But an adaptation comes with its own challenges: Honing a 500 page novel into a 110 page script. Externalizing very internal character arcs. Not pissing off the millions of fans around the world who don’t understand, or frankly care, that a book and a movie are very different animals, and that one can’t simply transfer the entire text into screenplay format and shoot it.

Relativity Media has released the trailer for Mirror, Mirror, a “darkly comedic” film adaptation of the classic fairy tale Snow White. We’ve embedded the video above–what do you think?

Here’s more from Deadline: “Mirror Mirror, described as a comedy action adventure that stars Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Julia Roberts, Nathan Lane and Sean Bean, will be released March 16, 2012. That puts it well ahead of Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, which opens June 1 and looks more like The Lord of the Rings than a light fairy tale.”

Snow White and the Huntsman features Twilight‘s Kristen Stewart and Thor‘s Chris Hemsworth in the title roles. Follow this link to watch the trailer for that film. As we previously noted, Oscar winner Charlize Theron plays the Evil Queen.

Writers Veronica Roth, Marie Lu and Erin Morgenstern all landed movie deals for their debut novels.

Roth released Divergent in May; Morgenstern’s book The Night Circus is due out in September and Lu’s title Legend will hit bookstores in late November. Lu sold her book’s movie rights to CBS Films. Summit Entertainment snatched up the rights to Roth and Morgenstern’s novels.

According to Variety, Harry Potter film producer David Heyman is interested in The Night Circus film. Deadline reported that Twilight film producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are looking at Legend. All three authors made an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

At the MTV Movie Awards last night, the first full trailer for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 was unveiled–complete with gratuitous wedding invitation imagery, shirtless werewolves, and waterfall make-out scenes.

Yen Press will release the second volume of Twilight: The Graphic Novel in October. 

Both the ebook and hardcover format will sell for $19.99. The publisher has ordered 350,000 copies for the first printing.

Young Kim illustrated both volumes. Volume one featured chapters one through thirteen of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight. Comicsbeat.com reported that the first volume sold 66,000 copies during in one week.

Beginning in April, Round Table Companies will offer comic book adaptations of best-selling nonfiction books.

Here’s more from the press release: “In partnership with Smarter Comics, Round Table Companies will release six comic books on April 16, 2011 in bookstores throughout the U.S. and Indigo bookstores in Canada, as well as in Hudson News stores on May 1, 2011. Additionally, readers can download a digital version of the books for free, online or on the SmarterComics Android applications from April 1 to July 1, 2011.”

The titles up for adaptation include The Long Tail by Chris Anderson, Overachievement by Dr. John Eliot, How to Master the Art of Selling by Tom Hopkins, Mi Barrio by Robert Renteria, Shut Up, Stop Whining & Get a Life by Larry Winget, and The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

Winter’s Bone actress Jennifer Lawrence will play Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games film adaptation. As of this writing, fans have left more than 380 comments on Facebook, many protesting the choice.

We’ve included some of the comments below. Some complain that Lawrence (pictured, via) is too “old” because she is 20-years-old. In the first book, Katniss is 16. Others find fault with her appearance; Lawrence has blond hair, milky-colored skin, and blue eyes. Author Suzanne Collins describes Katniss as being a brunette with an olive complexion and gray eyes.

Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga, has said in past interviews that his hiring was met with initial fan protest. These days, Pattinson enjoys great popularity and has even gotten mobbed during outdoor movie shoots. What do you think?

USA Today released its “Top 100 Books for 2010″ list this week, a bestseller list composed of 77 percent fiction. Stieg Larsson‘s Millennium series dominated the top three spots and George W. Bush‘s Decision Points occupied fourth place.

The newspaper also noted: “Stephenie Meyer‘s popularity began to cool off. She accounted for 4% of best sellers the list tracked, down from 11% in 2009. The vampire and paranormal craze among readers isn’t dead, but it’s fading, accounting for just 9% of best sellers, down from 17% in 2009.”

The article also noted that books with movie adaptations do particularly well. It’ll be interesting to see if adaptations (like Kathryn Stockett‘s The Help) will boost sales next year.
