Test of the Book Stock Watch System

Earlier today, one reader worried about what the health of Borders Group means for the publishing industry–prompting GalleyCat to test the Book Stock Watch.

Inspired by FishbowlNY’s Media Stocks feature, GalleyCat will start tracking the stock performance of the major companies that influence the bookselling business. Normally, this feature will run every Friday.

To test the project, we built a stock chart that took into account the seven publicly-traded publishing stocks mentioned by GalleyCat readers. For our test table, we have company name, abbreviation, and price increase at 3:30 this afternoon.

Amazon.com, Inc. AMZN +3.89
Wiley John & Sons Inc. JW.A +2.26
McGraw-Hill Co., Inc. MHP +1.59
Barnes & Noble, Inc. BKS +0.59
Scholastic Corporation SCHL +0.47
Books-A-Million, Inc. BAMM +0.09
Borders Group, Inc. BGP +0

Are there other stocks, indirectly or directly, that publishing-minded people should monitor?
