The All-New Adventures of Breakup Girl

breakupgirl-comicstrip.jpg

Lynn Harris originally created Breakup Girl with artist Chris Kalb in 1996 for spot illustrations in a relationship advice book, but the character took on a life of her own, leading to an advice-themed website that was acquired by Oxygen Media, a relationship which barely lasted a year before the dotcom bust. Then it took two years for Harris and Kalb to reacquire their rights to the character, and though the site’s been chugging along since then, it’s only recently that they launched a blog and restarted the comic strip, with the script that on deck for production just before the Oxygen layoffs. All new comics begin next Monday.

Could an all-new book of advice for the 21st century follow? One can only hope, although Harris has since moved on to fiction, self-publishing Miss Media through iUniverse and then selling the sequel, Death by Chick Lit, to Berkley (which published the book last summer), with another followup said to be on the way.
