The Land of Silent Morning by Kathleen K. Washington

The Land of Silent Morning front cover.jpg
Author, Kathleen K. Washington has written my Book of Color Pick of the Day: The Land of Silent Morning (Aquarius Press).

It sheds light through a true story about a twelve-year-old girl growing up near the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), where she suffered horrible abuse and was forced to work in Seoul’s dark underworld. With absolutely nothing in her pockets she sets out to leave her homeland and never return. She comes to the U.S. in hopes of disappearing and starting over but finds that is not as easy as she thought it would be. Hers is a story of the will to survive and spiritual redemption.

In its 10th year, Aquarius Press is an independent publisher that has made an effort to feature works by or about people of color. They should be applauded for doing something that many larger publishers are only beginning to realize the importance of. Kathleen K. Washington is now in her early 50′s and hopes that her book will help her find her lost sisters in Korea.
