The Wrath of Kuhn

Say the name David Kuhn in publishing circles (or other, snarkier ones), and you’re liable to get some interesting reactions. Maybe because he conducted a fairly spirited auction for Dana Vachon which eventually resulted in a two-book deal with Riverhead (though with Cindy Spiegel gone, it remains to be seen how everything will shake out. But I digress…) Since then Kuhn’s increased his notoriety by repping the family of W. Mark “Deep Throat” Felt, and now Daniel Radosh gets his moment in the auction sun.

According to the deal post at Publishers Marketplace, Nan Graham and Brant Rumble of Scribner have won the right to publish what looks to be a very juicy book: RAPTURE READY!: Adventures in the Strange Pop Culture of the Religious Right, which promises to be “an investigative account of the burgeoning multi-billion dollar Christian media industry.” An account, frankly, that I’m surprised no one’s really tried to do before — or at least, in the way that prolific contributor and blogger Radosh might…

Ron here: I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism, a book by Salon reporter Michelle Goldberg that Norton’s got on its 2006 schedule, as well as Michael Standaert’s Skipping Toward Armageddon: The Politics and Propaganda of the Left Behind Novels and the LaHaye Empire, which Soft Skull will be publishing in February.
