Word comes our way that Dinitia Smith, a cultural correspondent with the New York Times since 1995, left the position earlier this month. She will continue to write for the paper on a freelance basis but our understanding is that her status shift reflects a desire to return to filmmaking (Smith has won an Emmy and other prizes for her 15 dramatic and documentary films.)
