Two weeks ago, we told you about Philip Turner's departure for Sterling after years of service as the editor-in-chief for Carroll & Graf and Thunder's Mouth Press. Late yesterday afternoon, C&G announced that William Strachan would be stepping into both those roles for Avalon Publishing Group on January 2nd. Avalon publisher Will Balliett described the hire as "a perfect match from both an acquiring and an administrative standpoint," adding, "Bill has to be one of the most capable, accomplished, and well-respected editors in publishing." Strachan started in the business more than 35 years ago as an editorial secretary at Anchor Books, and rose through the ranks at Viking and Houghton Mifflin, all the way to the top at Henry Holt and then Columbia University Press. "I had the opportunity to get to know the people at Carroll & Graf and Thunder's Mouth this summer," he said in a prepared statement, "and I'm delighted to be joining this wonderful group."
