Watching Watchmen Sell Books

Despite a flagging economy and gloomy holiday book sale predictions, artist Dave Gibbons expects heroic sales of his upcoming book, Watching The Watchmen: The Definitive Companion to the Ultimate Graphic Novel.

Over twenty years ago, Gibbons and author Alan Moore created the famous graphic novel, Watchmen. A series of carefully-released movie trailers for the upcoming Watchmen film have generated interest in the franchise, prompting Gibbons to take behind-the-scenes look at the graphic novel’s creation–just in time for the holiday season.

Publishers Weekly has the numbers: “According to Titan Books spokesperson Ellie Graham the house released a first printing of 100,000 copies and is about to go back to press for more. Gibbons has toured 4 cities in the U.K , as well as making appearances in New York and Toronto. Despite the prospects of a dicey economy, Graham said Titan was ‘feeling positive on sales in the run-up to Christmas.’”
