Watchmen Director Zack Snyder Just Wants to Sell Books
In a recent interview, Zack Snyder, director of the films “Dawn of the Dead” and “300,” measured the success of his upcoming adaptation of the “Watchmen” graphic novel by the amount of books his film helped sell.
Over at The Rumpus, film writer Christopher Read interviewed the director about his upcoming film adaptation, discussing growing up, influences, books, and summer camp during the conversation.
Here’s a Snyder quote from The Rumpus: “I’d say the purest experience for the movie is not to have read the book because I think when you’ve read the book you’re just ticking off boxes. I think that after you see the movie, reading the book is a cool thing. I always say the movie’s not meant to replace the book. That’s ridiculous. I’m a huge fan of the book. They’ve sold an additional 2 million copies of the book since the first trailer was released after ComiCon. So I think that’s a success right there, regardless of whether the movie sucks or not. You know we’ve gotten more people exposed to it.”
