When GalleyCat reported that Scribd.com--the social networking site where writers upload and share everything from essays to novels--has grown to 50 million visitors, a number of readers wrote in with their thoughts about the site.

NY Times reporter and Scribd user Cole Louison writes: "Scribd is new and of course some of us are a bit cautious. I own scotches older than their CEO and it is a bit rattling when their VP says 'our goal is to liberate the written word.' But they have 50 million followers so far, and on a personal level they are cool, smart, nice, and caring."

"I've seen Scribd, but prefer Issuu.com. I'm guessing those two services will appeal to different types of people. I'm all about presentation (coming from a publishing background), where it seems that Scridb is best for text," wrote DesignDroid.

Another reader disagreed: "This dialogue is similar to the YouTube, Google Video, Veoh debate a few years ago -- ultimately, readers, authors, and publishers will go where the traffic and content is ... that was YouTube, and in this case, that's Scribd.com."
