What’s New With… James Cañón?

Back in the spring, we called your attention to <a href="James Cañón and the multiple literary award nominations he’d been receiving for his debut novel, Tales from the Town of Widows. He’s still getting the nominations, only now he’s also snagging the awards that come with them—in fact, he’s practically France’s sensational literary find of 2008! Two months ago, he won Le Prix des Lecteurs Vincennes, and this week comes word of his selection for Prix du Premier Roman Etranger (“the prize of the foreign debut novel”). Cañón is the third straight graduate of the Columbia creative writing program to win the prize, following Dinaw Mengetsu and Benjamin Kunkel.
