YA Deal News: Moriarty to Holt

Henry Holt just announced that Reka Simonsen has acquired The Inquistor’s Apprentice by Chris Moriarty (the Philip K. Dick Award-winning author of Spin State and Spin Control) in a significant deal. The three-book deal was helmed by Scott Hoffman at Folio Literary Management. German rights went to Dressler Verlag, in a very good deal, in a pre-empt, by Celeste Fine at Folio Literary Management, on behalf of Scott Hoffman, in association with Peter and Paul Fritz. Film rights are by Sarah Self at The Gersh Agency.

The Inquistor’s Apprentice is a young adult fantasy starring Sacha Kessler, a young Jewish kid from the Lower East Side. Set in Manhattan in 1905, the plot revolves around immigrant communities with their own ethnic veins of witchcraft and the city government that is intent on stamping out all “Un-American” magic.
