CBS Befriends "Lonelygirl15" CreatorsCBS has hooked up with EQAL, the folks behind the Web craze "Lonelygirl15" on a multiplatform content deal. The non-exclusive arrangement gives CBS first dibs on new EQAL productions that it can use on TV, online and on mobiles, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Also, EQAL can work with CBS producers to extend their TV series to the Internet and/or mobile. "This is a huge opportunity for us. It's incredibly exciting how you can take existing TV, make it interactive and create communities around it," EQAL CEO Miles Beckett said in the report. Thursday May 08, 2008

Mobiles Catching "Saturday Night Fever"?It's time to dig out those old disco tunes and the white polyester suit. Mobile content aggregator Player X has reportedly hooked up with Paramount Pictures to resurrect the '70s classic flick "Saturday Night Fever." Sort of. According to a report in The Inquirer out of the UK, Player X got the rights to develop a mobile "Saturday Night Fever" game and create a "Retrosode," a three-minute video clip of the movie. For 50 cents a day you'll get a daily text full of headlines from the Hellomagazine.com Web site. Collegiate Recreational Sports Go MobileHothand Wireless, which bills itself as a mobile gateway for college communication, announced a launch partnership deal with the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association, a resource for professional/student development, education and research in collegiate recreational sports that reaches 820 colleges and 5.5 million students nationwide.
The company said that they will power a menu-driven mobile Web application that for the first time allows students and others to access recreation and intramural information on Web-enabled phones and other wireless devices, regardless of carrier. Consumers can opt-in to receive text message alerts from recreation and intramural staff. Hothand Wireless provides rich content to consumers through a proprietary, menu-driven mobile gateway. Fremantle Ditches Direct Mobile Video DealsMocoNews is reporting that FremantleMedia has ditched the direct distribution deals it set up with wireless operators to deliver its programming on-demand to mobile users. Shows involved include "The Apprentice," "Pop Idol" and "X Factor." Fremantle reportedly made the move for a darn good reason - it wasn't making any money, despite having tried both ad-funded and for-pay models. Wizzard Deals for Music, Latino, Movie & Anything Goes Podcasts
First up is a global distribution agreement with indie label iRecords for music videos and music-related content like behind-the-scenes footage, interviews and live performances. Wizzard gets content from both established and up-and-coming artists covering all music genres. Next comes a partnership with eLatino Weekly, a free Latino-centric entertainment and current affairs publication. The deal calls for Wizzard to distribute video from eLatinoWeekly.com across its network, supported by advertisers and sponsorships. Time Unveils Site for iPhone UsersTime magazine has developed a version of its Time.com Web site just for iPhone and iPod touch users. According to Mobile Marketer, the new mobile site was designed to provide "a rich visual experience - sliding pages, expanding images - along with access to the latest news, analysis and photography from the site." CBS Eyes Mobile Citizen JournalismCBS is expanding into mobile citizen journalism. The network has launched CBS iMobile, a Web site where newshounds can upload photos and videos from their camera phones. Although the Web site is live, MocoNews reports that it seems to only work with Verizon Wireless phones so far. Hopefully that will change by the time CBS actually promotes the service. According to the article, CBS iMobile had a quiet launch during CTIA and the network is expected to start publicizing it as early as this week.
