CBS and AOL Announce Online Radio DealThe No. 2 U.S. radio broadcaster CBS Radio said on Friday it will combine its more than 150 online radio stations with AOL's more than 200 online stations, according to Reuters.
The article said that CBS Radio, a division of CBS Corp, will take over advertising sales, the companies said in a joint statement. Meanwhile, CBS Radio plans to launch this spring a new online radio player that incorporates the two companies' services and will also support the Mac platform in addition to Windows machines. This adds a music and talk radio component to AOL's already-existing CBS video portal. The report didn't mention cell phones. But AOL has a fairly sophisticated mobile platform in place in addition to its online radio portal. Given that Pandora, Slacker, and other streaming radio services already work on some cell phones, it's not difficult to envision CBS radio coming to a handset near you in the near future.
