Sonic Scoops Up CinemaNow in Movie Deal
PC Magazine is reporting that Sonic Solutions has agreed to purchase CinemaNow, the streaming movie provider, in an effort to combine the latter's online movie business with the former's movie burning technology. "With broadband-connected consumer electronics hitting the market in ever greater numbers, there is a growing need for a service that gives consumers one-click access to premium entertainment on any device in the digital home," said David Cook, president and chief operating officer of CinemaNow, in a statement. Currently, CinemaNow charges customers $8.99 to $14.99 to burn a movie to a DVD, and between $9.99 to $19.99 to download them to a hard drive, acording to the article. The mobile device implications of all this (read: DRM) remain unclear. Email This Post |
