BitTorrent Traffic Soars Despite MPAA LawsuitsWe're seeing the same story play out for video that we've already seen on the music side. According to an Ars Technica report, many observers have questioned whether the motion picture industry's efforts to sue BitTorrent sites are backfiring. That's because traffic to the popular ones appears to be on the upswing: "Even as the MPA, MPAA, IFPI, and other groups have scored legal victories over torrent sites, BitTorrent use is growing. In fact, average BitTorrent traffic for the two-month period from mid-January to mid-March was up almost 25 percent compared with the month before Christmas, according to online media measurement firm BigChampagne." The article noted that the MPAA's approach is different than that of the RIAA for music. The MPAA is going after the sites, whereas the RIAA, as frequent readers know by now, has gone after individual file sharers. Email This Post |
