Qualcomm is sharing the news that it won spectrum licenses in the recent FCC auction that enable it to broaden the reach of its MediaFLO TV service to more than 68 million potential subscribers.

Verizon Wireless offers the service under the V CAST Mobile TV brand; AT&T is expected to launch its own MediaFLO-based service next month.

Qualcomm spend $558.1 million to acquire eight licenses in the E block of spectrum that cover the Boston, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia and San Francisco areas. This will allow it to double the service's capacity in "five of the nation's top seven economic" regions and gives it "greater flexibility to deliver additional content and services in these top markets," WirelessWeek reports.
