Fierce Mobile Content has an editorial that questions the future of AT&T's planned mobile TV service on Qualcomm's MediaFLO USA network.

AT&T announced its intention for the service roughly a year ago, following close on the heels of a similar announcement by Verizon Wireless. While Verizon Wireless launched the service in a few markets not long after, AT&T pushed its own launch from the end of last year to sometime in early 2008.

The editorial speculates that AT&T is finally ready to go live with the mobile broadcast TV service within a week or so, but questions whether the "long-awaited debut may be hindered by the current softness in the economy." Although both operators have said that they haven't been affected by the economic downturn, the editorial points out that AT&T will have to be innovative in both content and pricing if it expects to get strong subscriber uptake for the new service.
