Virgin Digital Calls It Quits
The biggest problem with Virgin Digital was its lack of compatibility with portable MP3 players. In other words, you could only listen to music on your computer, not on any mobile devices, at the time of the service's launch. That was remedied later on, but by then, few cared. The service has actually been gone in the U.S. for several months--Virgin Digital handed off its customers to Napster at the time--but the October 19th shutdown date means last call even for U.K. residents.
