Jaxtr Launches Another Mobile Social Networking ServiceAccording to a MediaPost report, Jaxtr just launched its a mobile social networking service, with café jaxtr, a new mobile community, as its centerpiece. Surprisingly, the company also announced that it reached the 10 million user mark since its beta launch less than a year ago. (Who are all these people?) Here's how it works: "With the Jaxtr widget, users can link mobile or landline phones to their customized Jaxtr profile page, as well as other blogs or social network profiles," the report said. "A widget keeps the user's real phone number private, and there's no need to download an application to the phone. The service allows for local and international calls and voice mail, and uses the minutes already allotted in the subscriber's monthly plan." MediaPost calls it a mobile VoIP hybrid, but it's not, because you're using your regular cell phone minutes and not the carrier's data network. Jaxtr is bypassing the free Internet calling part, so there's actually less here than meets the eye. Email This Post |
