Mobile social network mig33 snagged an impressive $13.5 million in Series B funding. New investor DCM led the round that also included additional money from prior investors Accel, Redpoint and TVP.

The global service works on most types of mobile phones, including the basic models, which helped propel it to some nine million users across more than 200 countries. Its mix of free and low-cost services include VoIP, instant messaging, e-mail, text messaging, picture sharing and social networking and community features. Mig33 claims that its users log on for more than two million sessions and send 45 million messages every day and share more than a million pictures a month.

All that, and, according to the Web site, the service is still in beta.
