Breaking:Longtime CNN anchor Lou Dobbs announced on his show tonight that he is leaving the network. "I've talked extensively with [CNN/U.S. president] Jonathan Klein," said Dobbs, "and as a result of those talks, Jon and I have agreed to a release from my contract." Dobbs joined CNN in 1980 and was one of the original anchors on the news channel. Dobbs says he hopes to "engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day." He'll continue his daily radio show while "considering a number of options, and directions."

Breaking: White House communications director Anita Dunn will step down from her post at the end of the month and Dan Pfeiffer, her deputy, will take over, reports The Washington Post. TVNewser: It was Dunn who escalated the White House's verbal assaults on Fox News last month, saying on CNN, "The reality of it is that Fox News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party."

First on FishbowlNY: Time Inc. will shutter American Express-owned custom pub Fortune Small Business, FishbowlNY has learned exclusively. Although the magazine publisher has said it would not close any publications as part of its current restructuring, a Time Inc. spokesperson confirmed that the magazine will no longer be produced by the company's Content Solutions division.

Breaking: MediaJobsDaily reports Media General is considering consolidating the copy-editing and design functions for most of its papers into a central location. According to several sources, the company, which publishes 21 daily newspapers including the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Tampa Tribune, would move all its design, pagination, and copy editing crew to Lynchburg, Va. next year.

Breaking: Gawker Media fell victim to phony ad sales from scammers claiming to work for Spark SMG, a Chicago-based agency which until recently represented Suzuki. AgencySpy has learned Gawker never received payment for the ads, which crashed browsers and in some cases installed spyware on visitors' computers.

Breaking: Another round of layoffs is coming to Forbes. In an internal memo obtained by FishbowlNY, Steve Forbes said, "We -- and the entire media world -- have been hit hard by both the severe recession and the seismic shifts wrought by the Web. Given these dramatic events, further layoffs, unfortunately, are necessary across the entire organization." Top-level managers may already know who they have to cut, and the bloodletting could begin tomorrow.

Breaking: The New York Times is planning to cut 100 newsroom jobs by the end of the year. In an internal memo obtained by FishbowlNY, executive editor Bill Keller says, "As before, if we do not reach 100 positions through buyouts, we will be forced to go to layoffs. I hope that won't happen, but it might."

Breaking: Bloomberg LP wins the bid to buy BusinessWeek from McGraw-Hill Cos. Bloomberg president Daniel Doctoroff said, "The BusinessWeek acquisition will yield huge benefits for users of the Bloomberg terminal, and for our television, online and mobile properties." Bloomberg did not disclose the terms of the deal, but BusinessWeek sources say the cash offer is in the $2 million to $5 million range. Norman Pearlstine, Bloomberg's chief content officer, has been named chairman of BusinessWeek.

Breaking: The New York State Supreme Court's Appellate Division has thrown out Dan Rather's $70 million lawsuit against his former employer, CBS Corp. In a statement, CBS said they are "pleased by the appellate court's unanimous ruling today dismissing all of Dan Rather's claims." Rather's lawyer Martin Gold told TVNewser, "We believe the decision is incorrect on a number of grounds and, accordingly, we intend to ask the New York Court of Appeals to review it."
