Politico editors have removed David Catanese from coverage of Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) following the reporter's defense of the congressman's comments about victims of "legitimate rape" not getting pregnant because their bodies will "shut that whole thing down." The Washington Post / Erik Wemple For the sake of "argument," Catanese tried to see the controversy from Akin's side, writing, "We all know what he was trying to say." A genuine Twitter beatdown then materialized. NYT / Media Decoder John F. Harris, editor-in-chief of Politico, declined to comment about Catanese. But a memo sent out Sunday and signed by Harris and Jim VandeHei, Politico's executive editor, said, "David Catanese crossed a line a reporter shouldn't cross on Twitter when he seemed to weigh in on the merits of Todd Akin's comments -- especially in a way many people, including many Politico colleagues, understandably found offensive." Slate / Weigel Did he ask the question in a fairly stupid way? Sure. Did he get too defensive? Yes: He accused "the Left" of overreacting to his questions.

CBS News Unveils Plans for Political Conventions (TVNewser)
Coverage will be led by CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley, Face the Nation anchor Bob Schieffer and CBS This Morning co-hosts Charlie Rose and Norah O'Donnell. Let's call it Jason's Journey. For former Fox 21 KQDS-TV news director Jason Vincent, 32, it's a continuum of everything he'd learned, or hadn't learned, about cultural respect and identity, including his own. For those who only first heard of him two weeks ago, when a Facebook comment he'd posted disparaging of Native Americans went viral, it's a story about contrition, and maybe learning and growing a little. TVSpy Vincent was the news director at KQDS, the Fox-affiliate in Duluth. In early August, he posted a status update to his Facebook page that read: "Add drunk, homeless, Native American man to the list of animals that have wandered into my yard."
