Stuart Elliott: If the Super Bowl is only the beginning of a marketing game plan, companies believe the premium cost is economical. The spot needs to be buttressed by a panoply of complementary extensions into new media like Web sites, video clips, cellphone text messaging, blogs and short films. In other words, the 30-second TV spot is being made relevant again by nontraditional media.
Chandlers May Fight for Tribune Board Seats (WSJ)
The Chandlers could mount a proxy fight for additional seats on Tribune's board if the media company's board doesn't pursue a deal to the family's liking. Suspicious of the other bids made, they argue that their offer would allow the company to make the transfer from print-generated revenue to online-generated revenue without the short-term focus of the stock market.
